ABOUT: President/Director Samuel Kariuki
I was born and raised in central Kenya, Eastern Africa as the 3rd born in a family of 10, 9 boys and one girl. My parents were not formally employed and depended on un-consistent casual work and small seasonal businesses, which hardly provided sufficient support. Accessing quality education, medical care, clean water and sanitation, shelter, food and nutrition were a challenge due to the big family and meager income from our parents.
Through my struggle and little support from my parents and friends i was able to finish my secondary education, and i was the first in my family to have access to secondary school education. My elder brother didn’t have that access to high school education. After high school though i had a desire to further my education it was not possible, with my parents taking care of my younger siblings. Job opportunities were not available, capital to start business was not available i depended so much on manual work which were un reliable.
Life challenges and those of our parents and siblings bothered my heart so much and for along time. I remember looking for ways on how i can get in to USA for better opportunities. Finally, My Dream came true when I immigrated to the USA, and am thankful to God for the opportunity.
In 2002 I founded a Kenyan non-government organization called F.O.C.U.S. (Families, Orphans, Children Under Stress). This was formed as a response to the social and economic challenges faced by families, youth, children and communities at large with an overriding interest in HIV/AIDS and its social economic impact which was just declared a national disaster in 1999. We have made much progress in Kenya with establishment of Orphans and Vulnerable Children care and support programs.
In 2016 I founded a US-based non-profit organization called FOCUS Dream Center. FOCUS Dream Center’s is a registered 501(C)(3) non profit organization, Operating in Worcester MA, with an aim to support sustainable community programs internationally.
My desire to see my community living a better life, having access to basic needs like Food, Shelter, Education, Health services, water and sanitation and not like the experiences i had growing up. I wish to see Youth, person with disabilities, Orphans and Vulnerable children empowered through provision of basic needs like Educational support, Nutritional support, life skill support and any other needs that can help them in cutting down the poverty cycle.
FOCUS Dream Center in partnership with other like minded organization/Institution will work hard and focus in this areas of FOCUS, Scholarship for Orphans and Vulnerable children, provision of safe, clean water and sanitation, Medical Mission and Outreaches and Youth Empowerment and support programs, including Exchange Programs.
I am a Pastor and an Executive Board Member of Liberty Churches in Shrewsbury, MA and Founder Hossana Liberty Churches in Kenya.
