Accountability & integrity
I was born and raised in central Kenya, Eastern Africa as the 3rd child in a family of 10 children – consisting of 9 boys and 1 girl. My parents were not formally employed and relied on casual work and small seasonal businesses, which hardly provided sufficient support. Accessing quality education, medical care, clean water and sanitation, and basic needs were a challenge due to the size of the family.
Despite the struggles and little support from family and friends, I was the first in my family to obtain a high school education. Though I had a desire to further my education, the financial limitations we faced did not allow me to pursue this dream. With job opportunities and capital to start a business not available, I heavily depended on unreliable manual work.
Due to all the hardships and struggles my family was going through, I aspired for better opportunities that would improve our way of life. With the help of God, I had a dream to relocate to America with hope for a better life. My prayers were answered and in 2001 I relocated to America with my wife and 2 young children.
In 2002, FOCUS (Families, Orphans, Children Under Stress) was founded in response to the social and economic challenges I had witnessed growing up. These included difficulties faced by families, youth, children and communities at large with an overriding interest in HIV/AIDS, and its social economic impact which had been declared a national disaster in 1999.
My vision was to see my community living a better life and having adequate access to food, shelter, education, health services, water and sanitation, and life skills support. I desired to see the youth, persons with disabilities, orphans, and vulnerable children empowered through provision of these needs. We established orphans and vulnerable children care and support programs to address these needs.
In 2015 I founded a US-based non-profit 501(c)(3) organization called FOCUS Dream Center with the aim to support sustainable community programs internationally.
FOCUS Dream Center, in collaboration with similar organizations continues to build bridges of hope that provide sustainable and effective social economic initiatives.
I am also a founder of Hossana Liberty Churches in Kenya and a pastor at Liberty Churches in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, USA.
